Pubs
|
|
With the County Clare, or An Clair, as people know it here in Ireland, being generally regarded as the HOME of Traditional Irish Music, a stop-off in one of the pubs is as inevitable as having a rainy day. With everything from Live Music, Set Dancing, Traditional Irish Dancing, Sing-a-Long nights and even the occasional friendly Poker game on offer, the pub and Ireland has been walking a long and rocky road together, and they will keep on walking for a long time still to come. Ireland being the home of Guinness and boasting that, the best pints are still only to be found on the island, if you miss the taste of Guinness, you miss Ireland!! Then of course like any other country, the locally brewed poison, funnily enough called 'Poitin' is also in existence, but 'Poitin' being banned by Goverment, you might run into a leprechaun sooner than getting your hands on a taste of Poitin. Stopping off for a night session in
one of the hundreds of little pubs all over West Clare, maybe, and
just maybe you will be one of the lucky few who come accross a "Shanakee".
No, a Shanikee is not similar to a 'banshee', a shanakee is a story
teller of old, -a dying breed of Irish, due to the Western Influence
of Television-
