Dolphin Watching

The Shannon Dolphins are Ireland's only resident group of bottlenose dolphins. There are boat trips on offer to observe this large group living in the mouth of the Shannon River.

Research indicates that there are over one hundred (100) dolphins in this resident, breeding group. The Dolphins travel within the estuary in small family groups and every trip out is different, determined by the dolphins, whether they are feeding,
travelling or socialising.

These trips are all carefully negotiated to ensure that the dolphins are watched with the least amount of interference and disturbance, following a code of conduct.

The dolphins come up to the boat of their own accord, as they are naturally inquisitive and playful. It is essential that their way of life are not disturbed.

These boat trips also offer a quick lesson about the dolphins, estuarine marine life, sea birds and other local features from the very qualified guides on the trips.

These trips boast with an encounter rate of over 98% and you will also have the opportunity to listen underwater to the dolphins communicating through the use of hydrophones. Now that is something you need to experience!

There are 5-6 trips available per day to observe these extra ordinary creaures in their natural enviroment. A definite for the whole family!
